COYON was established in 2002 in Benighat VDC, Nepal to provide a more practical and locally focused approach to education that aims to meet the needs of the community while also considering and enhancing the cultural diversity of the country. Through its education initiatives, COYON aims to open up opportunities and possibilities for individuals and communities, and to contribute to the sustainable development of Nepal in a forward-thinking manner.
Despite significant technological and scientific development to enhance people's lives all around the world, many individuals and communities, particularly in rural areas, are still living in extreme poverty. These people and communities do not have access to basic requirements of living such as clean water, decent nutrition and healthcare, as well as hurdles like inadequate housing, limited access to school and employment opportunities. Access to the modern technology is still beyond the capabilities of these rural folks.
Youth and children living in rural areas of developing countries often faces numerous challenges that can significantly impact their lives. In addition to poverty, youth and children in rural areas are also having limited access to education and technology as many rural areas do not have schools or other educational facilities, and even if they do, there is lack of resources or trained staff to provide a quality education. This lack of access to education can limit opportunities for youth and children and make it difficult for them to achieve their full potential.
It is important to address the challenges facing youth and children in rural areas to create a more equitable and inclusive society, where all people have the opportunity to thrive and reach their best extent. There are several ways in which governments and NGOs can work to address these challenges and improve the lives of youth and children in rural areas. With the right support and investment, these young people can thrive and reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstances.
COYON was founded by like-minded young people who wanted to help and serve disadvantaged communities. We began a small campaign and put in effort to help these communities. COYON was established with the goal of serving and helping unprivileged people. We are a team of ambitious young people working to introduce community-based educational and awareness programs that we believe are essential for building a confident and self-reliant society.
Despite limited resources, we believe we have been successful in communicating to local youths that a combination of vocational education, academic coursework, and extracurricular activities is necessary to achieve our national objectives.
Over the past 20 years, we have regularly provided small yet effective programs and resources to approximately 7000+ students in a dozen of schools Dhading, Gorkha, Rasuwa, Dolakha and Chitwan district. These programs have included infstacture building, school support, scholastic material distribution, teaching proper hygiene habits, promoting community involvement in maintaining cleanliness, and distributing school supplies and clothing to children. The success of these initiatives has encouraged us to continue and strengthen this form of alternative education, which helps individuals develop their full potential and provides opportunities for them to contribute to improving society.
We believe that small actions can make a big difference, so we welcome suggestions, assistance, and support from individuals and organizations around the world. Your suggestions, assistance, or even small support can provide food, education, health, and happiness to someone in need.
